Our Dahlia Masterclass Part I is a shared growing experience designed to help you grow beautiful dahlias with confidence, clarity, and ongoing seasonal support.
This is not simply a workshop about planting tubers.
It is an invitation into a flower-filled life — one rooted in growing, cutting, arranging, and enjoying flowers through the seasons.
Over many years, dahlias have become one of the most important flowers in both my garden and my work as a floral designer. The collection we grow at The Flowersmith Studio has been carefully trialled and curated through the lens of both grower and designer — selected not only for performance in an Irish garden, but for their colour, form, character, productivity, and usefulness in floral design.
These are flowers I return to year after year for my own arrangements, workshops, weddings, and seasonal work.
This masterclass is an opportunity for me to share everything I have learned along the way, while supporting you as you begin your own dahlia-growing journey.
Your Dahlia Collection
As part of this experience, you will receive:
• Two established dahlia is plants from The Flowersmith Studio Signature Collection*
These are varieties that have earned their place in our garden and flower farm through years of growing, observation, cutting, arranging, and enjoyment.
Each participant will be invited to select preferred varieties prior to the event, subject to availability.
A Walk Through the Dahlia Garden
As part of the experience, we’ll spend time walking through the dahlia-filled walled garden at The Flowersmith Studio.
Together we’ll explore the varieties currently in bloom, discuss what makes each one special, look at how they are supported and managed throughout the season, and talk about the qualities I look for when selecting dahlias for both the garden and floral design.
This is an opportunity to see mature plants growing in real conditions, ask questions, gather inspiration, and experience the beauty and abundance of dahlias at their peak.

During this relaxed and informative masterclass, we will explore:
• Choosing varieties for your garden and lifestyle
• Planting and establishing dahlias successfully
• Feeding and watering throughout the season
• Pinching and shaping plants for better performance
• Support systems and staking methods
• Growing dahlias specifically for cutting
• Harvesting flowers for the home
• Conditioning and enjoying blooms indoors
• Creating a longer flowering season
• Common challenges and how to avoid them
All advice is drawn from practical experience growing dahlias here in an Irish garden and small cut flower farm.

Throughout the season, participants will have access to our WhatsApp private growing group, where I will continue to share seasonal guidance, tips, encouragement, and answers to common questions as your dahlias develop.

where we will explore how to safely lift, store, divide, and multiply your collection for future seasons.

This experience is suitable for complete beginners as well as gardeners looking to deepen their knowledge and confidence.
